Almond Casuarina - Barbados
I stayed at the gorgeous Almond Casuarina Barbados in November of 2009. The hotel did not disappoint at all, from the moment I walked into my Superior Deluxe Ocean View Room the magic started. The Almond Casuarina is built on the beautiful white sands of Dover Beach and is the perfect spot for an idyllic holiday.
I think what really made the holiday special for me was the Ocean View Room, we could sit out on the balcony and listen to the waves of the ocean. None of the plastic seats here either, proper wrought iron with cushioned seats.
My favourite restaurant was Dover Grill, the seafood restaurant set on the fabulous beach. With a selection of fresh fish to tempt your taste buds. You have to book into the restaurants to eat so its a good idea to do this on your first night and book for the next few evenings.
The other two restaurants are Waves which is the main restaurant for buffet breakfast, A la carte lunch and either buffet dinner or A la carte and Enids which is traditional Caribbean cuisine and only open for dinner. We also used the free shuttle bus that runs between all three Almond hotels one night and went to Almond Beach Village to the Italian restaurant, was very impressed with this, the food was lovely.
Most of the days we spent either around the swimming pools or on the beach where there was a beautiful sea breeze. Went out for a ride on one of the Hobie Cats which was great fun, especially if you dont hold on too tightly.
I found the staff very friendly particularly at the main bar, most of the time you didnt have to ask for a refill of drink it was there before you had finished your last one.
Overall my experience of Almond Casuarina was very good and would definitely recommend this hotel to couples and families.

Almond Beach Club - Barbados
I stayed at the Almond Beach Club a couple of years ago and had an Ocean front room, the views were stunning! I used to sit on the balcony and look out at the beautiful clear blue sea. The Almond Beach Club has a main restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and evening meal the food is very good and at 4pm the hotel serves afternoon tea. Upstairs is Enids Restaurant / Tommys Bar, with a big flat screen TV. There is a piano bar open from 11pm till 2am which has a/c and always has a great atmosphere.
Almond Beach Club has two pools and a very large sunbathing area. There is a small beach and bar but if you walk a few feet to the left, you are on the beach of the famous Sandy Lane Hotel. The Almond Beach Club has a small shop at the entrance which has all English newspapers and just across the road is Cave Shepherds where you can get all your duty free. (Top tip if you over do the sunbathing tell hubby you are going to have to go across to Cave Shepherds to cool down in the a/c and leave him in Enids, you can shop till you drop and he wont be moaning.)
Almond Beach Club has a very good spa; I was lucky enough to have some treatments and can highly recommend them.
Trips – Almond Beach Club will arrange your trips and give you a free half day to Bridgetown. We did a glass bottom boat trip it was only about $10 and the guy was a local who gave so much information and we got to see some shipwrecks.
The Almond Beach Club is a small Hotel for adults only just at the start of Holetown; its about a 10 min walk to the Mall and Surfside Pub which is a must for anybody staying at the Almond Beach Club.
Its just behind the police station on the beach most of the tourists head they to watch English sports, when you are they make sure you have the fishcakes and have a look round the walls to see what famous people you can spot thats had their photos taken with the owners.

Almond Smugglers Cove/Almond Morgan Bay St Lucia - Twin Centre
We stayed in December for a works conference and combined a stay in both hotels, both different and with their own unique identity. Smugglers Cove, is all low rise, one storey bungalow style accommodation. Light and airy and spread nicely around the beautifully kept tropical gardens. Each bungalow has its own little garden taking you up to the entrance. Imagine sitting on your own terrace appreciating the flora and fauna of the resort sipping something chilled – it is that relaxing!
The resort itself is friendly, laid back and the staff are on hand to offer great customer service. The Italian restaurant ‘La Trattoria’ was my favourite and the ‘Waterside Grill’ for breakfast.
Make sure you leave the resort for the Friday evening fun at ‘Jump Up’ in Gros Islet – a Caribbean street party, with great food, great atmosphere and great jammin’!
Almond Morgan Bay I think is a very romantic resort, helped possibly by the stunning ‘Morgans Pier Restaurant’ which stretches out to the sea and at night is lit up beautifully. It offers a great seafood menu too! Swimming round the pier in the daytime and you can enjoy milllions of tiny crab scurrying around the rocks.
The rooms at Almond Morgan Bay were a delight. Very large and very light and airy. The balcony wasn’t huge but adequate and the views from our room (Deluxe Ocean View) were stunning! The bathrooms were great too – very large (I do have a bit of a bathroom fetish!). All the furnishings were white cane and so typically Caribbean.
We enjoyed a superb beach barbecue while we were there which was amazing – copious amounts and huge variety of Caribbean cuisine, you may want to take root for the full duration of your holiday. HOT TIP – don’t wear heels on BBQ night…!
While in St Lucia – try activities out of the resorts too. HOT TOP – zip wiring through the rainforest which was my personal favourite. A great family experience, with fully trained staff on hand to assist. Just got for it and enjoy the spectacular views especially on the last wire when you zip from the tops of the trees – it was amazing!
